Setting up your account and selecting or developing your AMIs, you ‘re ready to boot your case. Use the RunInstances API call to launch your AMI on any number of On-Demand instances. Only indicate how many instances you want to launch. For more than 20 on-demand instances, complete the Amazon EC2 request form.

If Amazon EC2 can fulfill your order, RunInstances will return success and we’ll start your instances. Use the DescribeInstances API call to check your instances status. You can also terminate any number of instances using the TerminateInstances API call.

If you have an Amazon EBS boot partition running case, you can also use the StopInstances API call to release the compute resources, but retain the boot partition data. You can use the StartInstances API to restart the associated instance with the Amazon EBS boot partition.

You can also use Spot Instances to reduce your computing costs when you have versatility when your applications can run. Learn more about Spot Instances for an overview of how Spot Instances operate.

If you prefer, you can also do all these acts from the AWS Management Console or through the command line using our command line tools introduced with this web service API.
