Alloy 410S (UNS S41008) is a low-carbon, non-hardening variant of Alloy 410 (UNS S41000), the all-purpose martensitic stainless steel with 12% chromium. Due to the low carbon content and minimal alloy addition, austenite formation at high temperatures is minimised, which limits the alloy’s ability to harden. Even when quickly cooled from above the critical temperature, Stainless Steel 410s Plates maintain their soft and ductile characteristics. When the alloy is subjected to high temperatures or welded, this non-hardening property aids in preventing cracking. When 410S is annealed, it is entirely ferritic. It has acceptable corrosion resistance, comparable to that of 410, and good oxidation resistance.

Sandmeyer Steel type 410S stainless steel has corrosion resistance that is comparable to type 410. In air conditions, fresh water, moderate organic and mineral acids, alkalis, and some compounds, it is resistant to corrosion. When thorough cleaning is done after usage, exposure to chlorides during routine activities (such as food preparation, sports, etc.) is usually satisfactory. The 410S stainless steel has strong oxidation resistance. Up to 1300°F (705°C), it can be used in continuous service. In intermittent service, scaling becomes excessive above 1500°F (811°C). By spinning, bending, and roll forming, 410S stainless steel can be easily manufactured. All fusion and resistance welding techniques can be used to join austenitic stainless steels, which are thought to be the most weldable high-alloy steels.

A flexible alloy with low carbon content, stainless steel 410S plates offer high-temperature strength with less brittleness. It is a great option for situations where ductility and toughness are desired alongside high-temperature strength. To avoid the formation of austenite even in the presence of carbon at high temperatures, 410S contains traces of titanium and/or niobium. This prevents the metal from hardening at high temperatures while also keeping it flexible and durable at all temperatures.
