One “Wordle” a day isn’t enough? Try “Dordle” which gives you two at once

Another day, another Wordle, and yet another Wordle clone, each with a dordle different take on the ubiquitous word game.

Summary Lewdle (ugly five-letter terms only), Absurdle (a nasty version that bends the guessing technique), Primel (five-digit prime numbers only), Sweardle (four-letter words) and apparently more are in the works.Daily updates mean you won’t waste hours guessing. Unlike many games and apps, Wordle doesn’t strive to dominate and monetize your attention. You’re  done till tomorrow after completing the daily puzzle. And, because you’re human, you’ll constantly want more. So Dordle is fulfilling your wish in the manner of a monkey’s paw.

Dordle belongs to the wicked category of Wordle variants, and not simply because there’s no apparent way to say it. (Is it a doordle or a durdle?)

The game uses two Wordle grids with five letters, six guesses, missing letters, and errors. Despite double wordle-ing, you only receive six guesses, which apply to both games. You must decide if you can accurately estimate both variables or if you should compromise.

If you’re lucky and/or smart, you can solve one side quickly and still have time for the other. If you solve the first side on your fourth or fifth guess oceanarticles, you may need a “Hail Mary” phrase.

What about those convenient color-coded keyboards, you might ask? That is possibly the most inventive twist. Guessed letters are separated while you work on both topics. If the left grid has an E but the right doesn’t, the keyboard E is half green and half grey. After you solve one side, the letters grow a green stripe and the second side’s colors take over the key. In other words, the keyboard actively assists you in concentrating on the unsolvable aspect.

The good news is that, in addition to a daily Dordle that is the same for everyone, Zaratustra has created a non-daily, randomised version that you can play as many times as you like to fine-tune your strategy (and your vocabulary). Yes, both the daily and unlimited versions generate the now-familiar blank grid that you may copy to your clipboard to demonstrate your brilliance (or your failures, or failures, plural).

The bad news is that, as you might expect, having endless Dordles makes it just as addictive as it is challenging. A timely warning to everyone working on their own Wordle version right now: too much of a good thing can be harmful.
