How Often Should You Replace The Hot Water Tank In Your Home?

Winter is on its way. That means it is time to get comfortable and cosy in the house. But to experience the warmth during winters, it is important to get ready for the season, too.

The last thing you may want to experience during the cold season is no hot water. So, if you think your hot water tank is acting up, then now is the time to act and take the right action.

But, how would you know if your hot water tank just needs a repair or is it broken down completely? Well, if you are finding it hard to determine, then here are some signs that suggest you need a new hot water tank installation in your home:

1- The tank won’t stay lit

If the tank isn’t staying lit, you should inspect the thermocouple – a device that checks if the pilot light of the water heater is on or not. If the thermocouple is damaged, it won’t be able to do its job.

If the thermocouple is bent away from the pilot light, try bending it back towards the light. You can even clean a dirty pilot tube to remove all blockage and see if the light works. If none of these processes works, you will require replacing the thermocouple.

2- The hot water tank isn’t filling up

If there is a low water pressure or the hot water runs out quickly, then that means there is a problem with the hot water tank.

With such an issue, the first thing you need to inspect is for leaks. If there are no leaks, try holding the temperature-pressure release valve open. If there is a pressure lock, then doing so can allow the tank to fill back up properly.

3- There is a leakage at the bottom

If you see water leaking from the bottom of the hot water tank, then there are a few reasons for that. The drain valve, an opening that enables you to drain the water for regular maintenance, may be leaking. If this is the case, then it can be fixed easily.

If you notice the formation of normal condensation on the heater, then try turning the thermostat a little up. There could be leakage out from around the pipe.

4- There is a leakage at the top

If there is a leak at the top, check the pipe that goes in around the top. Loose fittings can easily lead to the creation of leaks.

If the pipe fittings aren’t leaking, then the temperature-pressure value may be the issue. Call the professionals to prevent any dangerous explosion.
