5 ways to clean precision parts made on a CNC machine
Do you know how to properly clean precision parts made on a CNC machine? Machine parts should always be cleaned during the assembly process. In this article, we will show you how to clean precision parts made on CNC machines.
The purpose of cleaning parts is to remove all contaminants from the surface such as foundry sand, iron powder, rust, abrasives, oil, and dust. Parts cleaning is a very important part of machine assembly, as the cleanliness of the parts after cleaning has a direct effect on the quality and life of the machine assembly. To successfully clean parts, the right cleaning product and method must be selected, depending on the material, structural characteristics, contamination, and cleanliness requirements.
There are five basic methods for cleaning precision CNC machined parts
1. Scrubbing
Parts are placed in a container with a cleaning solution such as diesel fuel or kerosene and scrubbed with a cotton thread or brush. This method is simple but not very effective and is suitable for prototypes and small batches of small parts. In general, gasoline is not suitable because it is fat-soluble and therefore harmful to health and can easily cause fires.
Boiling the solution
The prepared solution and the parts are placed in an appropriately sized cleaning tank, welded with an iron plate, heated in a pan to 80-90°C and boiled for 3-5 minutes.
3. Aerosol cleaning
A cleaning solution of certain pressure and temperature is sprayed on the surface of the component to remove oil stains. This method is very effective for cleaning and has high production efficiency, but it is suitable for cleaning parts with complicated equipment, less complicated shape and strong oil stain on the surface.
4. Cleaning by vibration
The object to be cleaned is placed on the basket or grid of the vibration washer and immersed in the cleaning solution. The vibrations of the machine replicate hand washing and the chemical action of the cleaning the solution removes oil and dirt.
5. Ultrasonic cleaning.
The removal of oil stains is based on the chemical action of the cleaning solution and the vibrations of the ultrasonic waves injected into the cleaning solution.
The cleaning method should be chosen according to the cause and characteristics of the oil film, in order to ensure the normal use of the component, prevent corrosion and damage to the component and avoid environmental pollution and further contamination of the component.
